Dream come true: Medical clinic arrives in Ridgeland

Free medical services for those without health insurance and on low income are now available at a clinic in the community.

Bluffton-Jasper Volunteers in Medicine is unveiling its new Ridgeland medical clinic Thursday with an open house starting at 5:30 p.m. The facility is at 11332 N. Jacob Smart Blvd., and will provide primary care services. The Bluffton location continues to offer gynecological services, cardiology, endocrinology, diabetic care and nutrition.

About one-third of the patients who visit the Bluffton-Jasper Volunteers in Medicine clinic in Bluffton off Burnt Church Road are Jasper County residents, calling for a facility closer to home for their patients.

Subaru of Hilton Head Supports BJVIM as part of Share the Love initiative

Subaru of Hilton Head was proud to present a check for $11,912 to the Bluffton-Jasper County Volunteers In Medicine on Monday, May 2, as part of the Subaru Share the Love Initiative.

“We were thrilled to be able to donate these funds to such a worthwhile organization,” said Brian McGinnis, General Manager of Subaru of Hilton Head. “Subaru of Hilton Head enjoys being able to ‘share the love’ and contribute to those in need in our community.”

VIM to Open Jasper Co. Clinic

For the past 18 months, the organizers at the Bluffton Volunteers in Medicine clinic have worked to get care to those in need in Jasper County and slowly its become a reality.

Opening June 9th, the new clinic will offer a variety of primary care services for those without insurance, and making less than the poverty rate. Folks in Jasper County up until now, had the choice of driving to the Bluffton clinic, going straight to the hospital, or not receiving care at all.

Open House for Free Medical Clinic in Ridgeland Underway

Bluffton Jasper Volunteers In Medicine will unveil their long-awaited Ridgeland medical clinic during an open house at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, in Ridgeland at 11332 N. Jacob Smart Blvd. The Bluffton Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine provides medical services free of charge to individuals who are without health insurance, live or work in Great Bluffton or Jasper County and qualify based on income.

Beaufort Jasper Co. Volunteers in Medicine offering free colon cancer screenings

One of three free clinics in the Lowcountry is offering colon cancer screenings for uninsured people. According to a release from Heather Bragg,  Beaufort Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine with efforts from Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health Services, which secured a grant with the American Cancer Society’s National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, and a grant from AccessHealth Lowcountry, BJVIM, Good Neighbors Free Medical Clinic in Beaufort and the Volunteers in Medicine of Hilton Head are offering fecal immonochemical test (FIT) for screening colon cancer. It tests for hidden human blood in stool, which can be an early sign of cancer. Medicines and food do not interfere with the test. The test tends to be more accuracte and has fewer false positive results than other tests.

Reclaiming Your Health Seminar

The Campbell Chapel AME Church along with a number of area organizations will hold a free health and wellness conference in Bluffton this week.

“Reclaiming Your Health” will take place from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the church, 25 Boundary St., Bluffton, according to a news release.

Volunteers in Medicine extending arm in Jasper

A free medical clinic could be on its way to Jasper County.

The Bluffton Jasper Volunteers in Medicine, which offers medical services free of charge to individuals who qualify based on income, currently serves Jasper residents but according to Executive Director for the BJVIM clinic Pam Toney, the organization hopes to expand in the next few years to reach an even bigger client base.

“We have 450 patients from Jasper that come to us, but one of the big issues is transportation,” Toney said. “So they’re just not able to get to us to make appointments. We realized the need to have a physical presence in Jasper County and we’re working on that.”
