Bluffton-Jasper County Volunteers in Medicine is collaborating with the Pregnancy Center & Clinic of the Low Country (PCCLC) to offer a mobile pregnancy van in Jasper County each week.

BJVM has been operating in Ridgeland since June with family medicine and ophthalmology services.

“Having the mobile pregnancy van offered once a week at the clinic is an additional medical service we are now able to provide. The mobile van has been our Bluffton clinic for many years and gratefully with this collaboration we will be able to provide prenatal care to our patients,” said Pam Toney, Executive Director of BJVIM.

The Pregnancy Center &Clinic of the Low Country has served women of reproductive age in Beaufort and Jasper counties since 1990.

Free early Adequate Prenatal Care (APC) through the first 16 weeks of gestation, the most crucial timeframe in any pregnancy, is offered to all clients who are uninsured, underinsured or underserved regardless of geographic residence. Currently, prenatal care services are offered at PCCLC on Hilton Head Island (Mondays-Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

Mobile clinic services are offered in Hardeeville at Pricewise Supermarket at 8 Main Street on Mondays and at the Bluffton Jasper Volunteers in Medicine Clinic on Hwy. 278 and Burnt Church Road on Wednesdays.

Mobile clinic hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Vera L. Bailey, executive director of the Pregnancy Center &Clinic of the Low Country, invites the public to a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony with the Jasper Chamber of Commerce 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 11332 N. Jacob Smart Blvd., Ridgeland.

The mobile clinic will be open to serve prenatal clients immediately following the ceremony and every Tuesday thereafter.

Last year BJVM opened its facility in Ridgeland that provides primary care services. About one-third of the patients who visit the Bluffton-Jasper Volunteers in Medicine clinic in Bluffton off Burnt Church Road are Jasper County residents, calling for a facility closer to home for their patients.

The Ridgeland clinic has four exam rooms with one dedicated for eye exams.

According to its website, Pregnancy Center &Clinic of the Low Country’s mission includes providing woman with early adequate prenatal care and educational, spiritual, emotional, and material support.
